What you need to know before laying down some new threads in your home
Take a look around the room you're thinking of re-decorating in your home. Is the current d?cor in line with your personal style, or has it turned into a mish-mash of trends with nothing pulling it together? If the answer is 'yes', then a new carpet could be just the thing to unify your room and act as an excellent base to build your style from scratch. Looking to lighten a murky room? Add a cream or brightly colored carpet. Want to add a cozier vibe to a high-ceilinged austere room? Consider a densely pattered, thick pile carpet in red wine and golden shades to really make it a place the whole family wants to hang out in. But before you make that5 all important purchase, there are a few things you need to consider...
Matching Your Room To A Carpet
Consider that a carpet will probably be with you for an average of seven-10 years, so you need to choose wisely to avoid making a costly mistake. Think about the levels of durability you require. Do you have young children who are constantly dashing about on the carpet? Do you have pets that have occasional little 'accidents'? In which case, go for a hard-wearing version with a string latex adhesive. Fibers can be nylon, olefin, polyester, acrylic or wool - and of all of these, nylon is the most durable and colorfast, as well as stain-resistant. In Cut Pile carpeting, the fibers can start to 'relax' after a few years, giving you a more 'blossomed out' look that no amount of brushing will pad out again. You can expect a good to high-end carpet to hold its color for about 12-15 years, but obviously you will pay more. When it comes to density, the thicker the better. Perform an easy density test by wiggling your finger through the fibers to try to touch the mesh. The thicker the carpet, the harder this will be. For a more formal look, opt for Plush styles of carpet, or for a more informal vibe, Saxony is a great choice.
