What options do you have when it comes to adding a paving element to your home? We reveal your choices...

Paving can bring a very natural-looking feel to the outdoor areas of your home, with the added bonus that they require very little upkeep and can instantly add order to even the most jumbled of backyards. The four most common types of paving are limestone, sandstone, granite and slate - all super hard-wearing, with sandstone being the most popular of these four, thanks to its larger color range from black and grey, greens, reds and browns to yellow. If you're not keen on splashing out on natural paving, you can opt for man-made concrete styles - however, it will often weather faster than natural stone, so it could be a false economy in the long run.

Stone Me!

Brick Pavers are a popular option for gardens, patios and paths. Paving in this style can add a chic look to your outdoor areas and a popular way to lay them is in herringbone fashion, which will add a timelessness to your garden or backyard. They're also highly versatile, durable and strong. Concrete Pavers are a popular choice for homeowners, largely due to the huge variety of options on the market when it comes to size, shape and color, meaning you can find a style that'll match your home and outdoor surrounding perfectly. Mined from quarries, stone paving is pricier, but as mentioned earlier, will outlast most man-made options. Moving onto your textural options, Riven paving is one to consider, and is a handmade option that can only be produced by an expert, so you'll certainly pay more. Small metal wedges and chisels are forced into the stone blocks along their natural strata layers to create an uneven surface, that'll add a rustic and natural charm to any area. If you prefer smooth style though, smooth surface paving is also available, whereby natural stone blocks are sliced into slabs and then honed off for a smooth finish. This type can come in pretty much any thickness you desire.
